Accommodation details
Set in the heart of the Kentish countryside this peaceful retreat is in the village of Nonington, nestled in an idyllic valley on the edge of the North Downs. The house is full of history and character being originally a 15th Century Hall House with a later Victorian weatherboard shop addition, formerly the village drapers. The shop provides very private and spacious bed and breakfast accommodation and there is a restored oak-framed detached barn which is available for self-catering breaks. Farthingales B&B has recently been awarded a 4-Star Silver rating by Visit Britain.
The house is set in over an acre of tranquil landscaped gardens with views over rolling fields and the ancient village church. The feeling of peace and seclusion complement the ease of access to local places of interest and transport links. The Cathedral City of Canterbury is only 15 minutes drive away and Dover (ferries), Folkestone (Channel Tunnel), and Ashford (Eurostar), are within easy driving distance. The nearest rail link is a 15 minute walk and has direct trains to London Victoria.
Farthingales is a beautiful place to unwind and spend time recharging yourself. The local countryside offers good walking and cycling and there are many places of interest to visit. These include Canterbury, Dover Castle, and the Cinque Ports of Sandwich and Deal. There are several grand houses and gardens in close proximity with Goodnestone Park only one mile away, Farthingales being originally part of the Estate.
Come and let yourself unwind at the award-winning Farthingales.

Lounge
The spacious lounge is for the exclusive and private use of our guests and is set within the old shop. In summer the room is bathed in light from the shop windows, and the views of the original timber framed house and gardens conjure up a bygone age .
To the side of the lounge is the breakfast area, which has a refrigerator for the use of guests, and tables which are available for use in the evenings. In winter the old Staffordshire Stove keeps the room cosy and inviting.
Bedrooms
The bed and breakfast accommodation is comprised of a twin and double bedroom set within the old Victorian shop. Both bedrooms are comfortably furnished and have en-suite and beverage making facilities. In addition, each room has LCD television with freeview and DVD. The bedroom windows reveal lovely views of the gardens, pond, surrounding fields and the twelfth-century village church.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the old shop from which there are lovely views of the gardens. Breakfasts are prepared from fresh locally-sourced ingredients, some being home-grown. There is a self-service table for cereals, breads, fruit and fruit juice. A selection of freshly brewed coffees and teas with decaffeinated options are served at the tables.
A traditional cooked breakfast with locally-produced bacon and sausages provides a hearty start to the day. Separately-cooked and prepared vegetarian options are also available.
Gardens
The property is surrounded by extensive grounds, formal lawns, an orchard and vegetable garden. The water garden, which overlooks the church, is on the site of the original village pond. Most of these gardens are for guests to enjoy, although some parts are kept for the private use of the owners. There is also a secluded area for those staying in the Barn.
The Barn
The Barn at Farthingales offers a complete escape for short breaks in comfortably furnished 2-double-bedroom accommodation. The Barn is an Oak-framed detached former Cart Lodge, which is set well away from the Victorian shop and the timber framed house. As such it is secluded and private. There is a large reception and open-plan kitchen area with exposed timbers to its full height. Both double bedrooms have en-suite facilities, one with large corner bath, the other with a shower. There is an additional sleeping area on the mezzanine floor overlooking the main reception, which forms a secondary reception area with digital Freeview television and DVD. The bedrooms also have digital television.
An all-year sunroom with beamed ceiling, and floor-to-roof glazing overlooks the gardens. This room, in common with the rest of the Barn , has teraccotta-tiled flooring with underfloor heating.
Each room is divided into separate heating zones with its own thermostat control panel. This allows you to vary the temperature as you desire. The kitchen is well-equipped with cooker, hob and microwave. There is a utility room with a washing machine and drying area and there is also a dishwasher.
The Barn can be let for one or more week-long breaks in summer and is also available for shorter breaks over the winter months. The rates are seasonal and a limited number of weeks can be booked directly through Farthingales.
