The Salutation was built by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1911-1912 for William, Gaspard and Henry Farrer as a weekend retreat to enable them to enjoy the coastal air. Named after an inn that originally stood within the grounds, the main house is supported by Knightrider House, Gatehouse, Coach House and Gardeners Cottage.

Set within the town and adjacent to the River Stour, surrounded by 3.5 acres of delightful Lutyens and Jekyll gardens and almost entirely encircled by the old city walls of Sandwich, the house is afforded a remarkable level of privacy.

Accommodation reflects the integrity of the house and gardens; the rooms are truly world class. Like a fine claret leaving you with a rounded after-taste, our rooms are tailored for the connoisseur.

Please note: Children under 16 are not permitted to stay at the Salutation.

Accommodation
Guest accommodation at The Salutation is rather special. The Salutation allows you to enjoy the luxury and comfort of a 5-star hotel whilst giving you the freedom and seclusion of a private house.

Each room is exquisitely appointed to the highest standards, and every bed is furnished with duck down duvets, pillows and toppers assuring the most comfortable night’s sleep.

The rooms, nine in all, are located in three beautiful properties within the curtilage of the main house. Each property has its own sitting room and dining room or dining area; and a state-of-the-art kitchen allowing you to indulge your culinary skills in the evening.

The accommodation is available on an individual room basis or on an exclusive property basis. For larger parties it is possible to occupy the entire site.

Knightrider House
This enchanting Queen Anne property has been completely renovated, whilst still retaining its period charm. It backs straight onto the grounds of The Salutation, bestowing views of the beautiful ornamental gardens. Knightrider House has four bedrooms; St George’s and St. Andrews are en suite, whilst St Augustine’s and St. Michaels share a bathroom. The house also features a very comfortable drawing room, spacious dining room and a fully-fitted kitchen.
Exclusive occupation of Knightrider House allows you and your party to enjoy the property in total privacy.

The Coach House
This delightful maisonette has recently been renovated and incorporates two en suite bedrooms; St. Davids and St. Giles. The Coach House boasts a large sitting room which enjoys an enormous fireplace. There is also a state-of-the-art kitchen with dining area.
Exclusive occupation of The Coach House allows you and your party to enjoy the property in total privacy.

Gardener’s Cottage
This charming self-contained cottage contains three bedrooms; St. Austell, St. Pierre and St. Mellion. Gardener’s Cottage has one bathroom with a bath and shower, a delightful sitting room complete with a period fireplace, and French windows which lead on to a small terrace. This residence also includes a state-of-the-art kitchen with an adjacent dining area.
Exclusive occupation of Gardener’s Cottage allows you and your party to enjoy the property in total privacy.

Tariff
Exclusive use of any of the individual properties, or indeed the entire site is available. Please call for a quote.
Prices are on a per room, per night basis and include a full English breakfast.
Breakfast will either be served within the individual property or in The Salutation’s Main Dining Room.
Private parking is available to all guests.
