Details: The distinctive Georgian house of Belmont, set in handsome gardens and encircled by classical English country parkland, holds spectacular views of the Kent countryside and is a totally unblemished and characteristic example of the work of architect Samuel Wyatt. The compact central section has show fronts to the north, east and south. Although the house is built of red brick the show fronts are faced with stone-coloured mathematical tiles. These give the effect of luxury brickwork. To the south the entrance has three bays with an Ionic colonnade. This is flanked to the left by the large Orangery. The east front is longer with large bow windows at each end topped by low saucer-like domes.

Belmont holds wonderful souvenirs of the family's history and travels - quality paintings, furniture, Indian silverware and the finest collection of clocks in private hands in the country which was collected by the 5th Lord Harris. The house also contains an exclusive collection of watercolour paintings by the Trinidadian artist Michel Jean Cazabon.

There is something of interest for everyone in the garden at Belmont; a mixture of formal and informal, herbaceous, woodland, fruit and vegetable that has evolved over the years since the gardens were first laid out by Colonel John Montresor in the 1790s. These family gardens provide interest out the season. To the east and south of the house are large formal lawns (including croquet lawns) dotted with fine specimen trees, which includes a Tulip tree that is over 100 years old and a Cedar of Lebanon. There is a woodland area and pineteum (which includes a shell grotto to the west and a small walled garden bordering to the courtyard to the north). The latter has extensive long borders, glorious wisteria and a large rose border.
