Details: Most of us will at sometime have looked up on a summer's day and seen the gentle, graceful turn of a sailplane high in the sky. The fascination of silent flight, seeking thermals and climbing up to the clouds is not easily described. Nor is the achievement of managing to stay high in the sky, without an engine, for an hour or more. Above Challock there are magnificent views over the Weald of Kent. On a clear day you can see Southend and the coast of France in one 360° turn!

From your very first lesson, with an instructor to guide you, you are ‘hands on’, and in the ensuing flights you will gradually learn how the controls work, coordination of the stick and rudder, keeping the wings level and making gentle, graceful turns. All of your training leads to your first goal - going solo. Once you are flying well and consistently, the big day arrives and after several check flights your instructor sends you off on your own. They say the best landing you ever make is on your first solo flight!

Trial Lesson
Most people start gliding with a trial lesson. Flying with a British Gliding Association trained instructor, your two-seat glider is towed up to 2,500 feet where it is released to gently float high above the airfield. During the flight your instructor will show you how the controls work and you will have the opportunity to fly the glider. Trial lessons last around 15 minutes and at the end of your flight the instructor will bring the glider back to the airfield and land it. A trial lesson also entitles you to three month's temporary membership of the club.

We book flights in the morning and the afternoon on flying days. The bookings are usually made for 10:00, 10:30, 11:00 am and 4:00, 4:30, 5:00 and 5:30 pm.
Bookings made up until the end of May can usually be fitted in giving about a week's notice. Bookings made for the busy Summer months; June, July and August may require two or three weeks notice, sometimes more depending on how busy we are at the time. We would advise you to make your booking as soon as you have decided upon a day and date. Winter bookings can usually be made on the day. If your flight is cancelled due to unsatisfactory weather, your flight will then be re-booked.

Vouchers are valid for six months from the date of issue. If your voucher becomes out of date and no bookings have been made, then the voucher should be returned to the Gliding Club requesting an extension.

Price
An Aerotow to 2,000ft with a flight of up to 25mins, depending on the conditions, costs £75.00.
