Details: Stubbs Wood is situated on the Greensand Ridge near to Ide Hill village. There are eye-catching views to the south over Bough Beech Reservoir and on to Ashdown Forest in the distance. The site is owned by Kent County Council and managed in cooperation with Sevenoaks District Council. Stubbs Wood is located within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and gives people incredible views over the surrounding countryside. From the Gravesend ridge there are numerous outstanding views over the Weald and Bough Beach reservoir.

A Site of Special Scientific Interest, the park is the habitat of many rare animals and plants. English oak and beech tress dominate the woodland; although holly, whitebeam, ash, chestnut, hazel and rowan are also in evidence. In the areas of ancient woodland it is possible to find an extensive array of species including bluebell, wood sorrel, yellow archangel and ramsons. Unusually for Kent, there are a few areas of heathland with heather, bilberry, bracken, heath bedstraw, wavy hair grass and heath speedwell.

Stubbs Wood is part of a large Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) which includes much of the Toys Hill area. It has lots of plants characteristic of ancient woodlands including large areas of bluebells in the spring. The site suffered terribly in the 1987 storm however natural regeneration and a plan of replanting have helped it to recover. A number of enormous ancient oak and beech trees survived the gales and remain still.

There are two waymarked walking trails and the Greensand Way also crosses the site. Parts of the site are easy to get to for horse rides and cyclists on public bridleways. A few of the paths at the crest of the slope are suitable for people with walking difficulties however others are steep. Picnic tables are available around the car park, but there are no toilets on site. The nearest public toilets are at Ide Hill, half-a-mile west of the car park.

Stubbs Wood can be entered off the B2042 south of Goathurst Common. The nearest station is at Sevenoaks, six miles to the north east.

Cycling, walking and riding are allowed and there are various view points.

Opening times:
9am to dusk or 9pm. Whichever is earlier.
