Details: Tenterden Vineyard is the home of English Wines plc, who make wines under the Chapel Down brand. Tenterden Vineyard encompasses 25 acres of vines planted on south-facing slopes. The soil type is a well-draining sandy loam and we successfully grow grape varieties as diverse as Bacchus, Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay.

English Wines Group plc are the producers of the Chapel Down range of wines. We are the largest producer of English wines in the country and have the ambition, expertise and the infrastructure to increase production every year.

One of the most significant developments we have made recently is to grub up some of the more unusual, Germanic grape varieties like Reichensteiner and Seyval Blanc and plant up more premium, French varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We are also encouraging our growers to do the same following the success we have had with these varieties at our own vineyard in Tenterden. With this new direction, we have also taken the opportunity to rebrand the majority of our still wines from ‘Curious Grape’ to ‘Chapel Down’, bringing them in line with our range of sparkling wines.

Visitors to the Chapel Down Winery are invited to wander in the landscaped grounds, herb garden or vineyards themselves. If you would like to know more, you can book onto a guided tour to learn about the history of English Wines and the challenges of growing grapes in a cool climate. Call 01580 766111 for information.
