Details: The second oldest pub in Folkestone, the Red Cow was built in 1682 during the reign of Charles II. Located in the village of Foord, the pub served its first pint of ale in 1683. The first licensee, Thomas Pay, took over the pub in 1741. Over the years it has passed through many owners, ultimately ending up with Louis and Mary Bennett in the late 1980s. Their son Louis Jr. and his partner Casey Huntley now run the pub.

Situated in the centre of Folkestone, the Red Cow is a proper drinker's pub with a very friendly atmosphere. Frequented by a wide range of clientele, the pub offers lively conversation as well as the usual pub games and entertainment.

The Pub
As you enter from Foord Road the front bar leads down a level into the older part of the pub. Just off this room is the sunny conservatory which opens out onto the large recently extended garden with plenty of dining and play space, making it a perfect place to bring the family for a summer lunch. Children will love playing on the bouncy castle, the swings, and the slide.

In the evenings the pub fills up with a wide assortment of individuals of all ages, from young people to the elderly. The crowd may consist of workmen, firemen, football fans, Dutch regulars, Liverpudlian locals, Irish Guinness drinkers, and families. On Sundays at lunchtime the pub is packed with diners, and live music and karaoke nights are scheduled regularly.

Food
Although the Red Cow features a good selection of beer, wine, and spirits, the pub is best known for its lunches. Prepared by Casey, the dishes feature fresh ingredients including quality meat from Smithfield in London. Specialities include Homemade Chilli, Beef Lasagne, and Spinach and Tomato Cannelloni, and there are daily specials in the summertime. Sunday roast dinners are very popular, with a choice of beef, pork, lamb, or chicken.

When in Folkestone stop into the Red Cow for a drink, a meal, and a fun and friendly time. Louis Bennett and Casey Huntley look forward to your visit!
