Details: The Western Heights Nature Reserve is carved into a hill, and is a fascinating place, which is full of unexpected things.

It is surrounded by chalk meadows that are full of multi-coloured wild flowers, butterflies and birds. There are also some marvellous views of the English Channel.

The fantastic fortifications of Dover's Western Heights were built to defend England against invasion by Napoleon, and are now surrounded by a local nature reserve with magnificent views over the town of Dover.
